Summary

The use of a private network address, aka random MAC or random hardware address with MSUNet 3.0 is not recommended.

Body

Question

Can I use a private network address, aka random MAC or random hardware address with MSU Wireless?

Answer

The use of a private network address, aka random MAC or random hardware address with MSUNet 3.0 is not recommended. A DHCP-registered device that has this privacy setting enabled will lose its MSUNet connection and require a new DHCP registration each time the MAC address changes.

Additional Info

MSU IT maintains instructions how to disable the random MAC for various devices on dhcp.msu.edu.
