Spartan 365 - How to Clear the Cache in Microsoft Teams on Windows

Following these steps will clear the cache Microsoft Teams uses which may resolve erratic behavior in the application.

Environment

Microsoft Teams (New, and Classic)

Before You Begin

If you're unsure what version of Teams you are using, see these instructions from the Microsoft support site.

Steps

The steps to resolve differ based on which version of Teams you are using. Most at MSU will be on New Teams.

New Teams

  1. Type settings in the search box, and then select the Settings app from the results.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Select the three lines at the top left and then choose AppsUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Select Installed apps, and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
  4. Locate the Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (...) on the right, and then select Advanced options.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. In the Reset section, select Reset.
  6. Restart Teams.

Classic Teams

  1. Quit MS Teams by right-clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting QuitUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Cut and paste the following location into a File Explorer window:
    • %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
  3. Delete the contents of that entire folder
  4. Restart MS Teams

If you had customized your Teams views, you may need to set those back up after performing this process. Go to your Chats, select the three dots ... at the top of the chat list and choose Customize View to get back in to the settings where you can do that.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
