Respondus Lockdown Browser - Using Respondus With Chromebooks

A Chromebook extension for LockDown Browser is available for exams delivered in D2L Brightspace. This solution is for student-owned and also managed devices. The LockDown Browser Chromebook extension also supports Respondus Monitor.

A Chromebook extension for LockDown Browser is available for exams delivered in D2L Brightspace. This solution is for student-owned and also managed devices. The LockDown Browser Chromebook extension also supports Respondus Monitor.

Installing the Chromebook Extension

To install the new extension to a student-owned Chromebook:

1. Use the regular LockDown Browser installation link from your course in D2L
   You will NOT be able to search for the app directly from the Chrome Web Store
2. The LockDown Browser installation link will direct to the Chrome Web Store
3. Select Add to Chrome to install the LockDown Browser Extension
   You will need to do this without being logged into Google with your MSU account. Chrome Web Store is not available on MSU accounts.
4. You're done!

Limitations and/or known issues with LockDown Browser for Chromebook

• LockDown Browser’s Calculator and Spreadsheet features aren’t currently supported.
• The extended keyboard functions (for adding symbols and special characters) aren’t currently available.
• LockDown Browser’s “Help Center” is currently unavailable, and there is no Live Chat support for students taking exams that require Respondus Monitor.
• "Allow access to specific external web domains" option is currently not supported.
• Pop-ups need to be enabled in Chrome for the server otherwise the student gets stuck on the "Start Quiz" page. Please refer to KB 427247.
