Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) - ESS - Error: "Start date should be after xx/xx/xxxx or later"

Summary

This error is caused by a payroll lock. If the problem persists more than 2 days, contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.

Problem

Employee wants to get W4 Tax Withholding and receives error "Start date should be after mm/dd/yyyy or later" via Employee Self Service. Another indicator is that the pencil icon (edit) is missing and not available to a new employee after initially accessing the W4 settings.

Resolution

Employees will be unable to process W4's until the payroll lock has been released (usually 1-2 days).
If problem persists, contact the Service Desk at (517) 432-6200 to create an incident ticket.

Cause

Payroll control record has been set to process payroll.
