Perceptive Content - Error: Failed to read file (C:\Program Files(X86)\ImageNow\E\etc\IN_hwfp.<computer name>

Problem

When trying to log in to Perceptive Content, you receive the following error: Error: Failed to read file (C:\Program Files(X86)\ImageNow\E\etc\IN_hwfp.<computer name>

Environment

Resolution

  1. Log on to the local machine with Administrator rights
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow\
  3. Edit the etc folder so that the Users group has Write permission Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\ImageNow\
  5. Repeat the same steps from above on etc to give write permissions to the User group
  6. Ensure the user is logged out of Perceptive Content
  7. In the Start or Search, locate Apps and Features.
  8. Select Perceptive Content Desktop Client.
  9. Select ModifyUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  10. Select NextUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  11. Choose Repair and then select NextUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  12. Select InstallUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  13. After a moment the client will be repaired. Select Finish. You may need to restart the computer.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  14. Log back into Perceptive Content and scan something.
  15. You will be prompted for a new token. Accept it.

Cause

Incorrect permissions on the necessary folders causes this error.
