Summary
After enabling SharePoint and OneDrive B2B integration with Microsoft Entra, previously shared links with external users may no longer work as expected for existing external collaborators and guest users. This change impacts users who previously accessed shared content using One-Time Passcode (OTP) authentication. The links will need to be re-shared to resolve this issue.
Body
Problem
You are a user external to MSU and are attempting to access previously shared content but cannot and receive this error: This organization updated its guest access settings.
Environment
External users accessing content previously shared using One-Time Passcode (OTP) authentication
OneDrive for Business
SharePoint
Resolution
SharePoint Site Owners and OneDrive users may need to re-share files, folders, or sites with external collaborators and guest users to restore access.
How to Identify Affected External Sharing Links and Users
Individual users can generate external sharing reports for:
- Their own OneDrive for Business accounts
- SharePoint sites where they are Site Owners
These reports are exported as CSV files and help identify:
- Files and folders shared externally
- SharePoint sites shared with external users
- Guest users and external collaborators with access
- Existing sharing links and permissions
The reports can assist Site Owners and OneDrive users in determining which content may need to be reshared after enabling B2B integration.
Please check this article for details how to generate these reports.
Cause
This occurs because external sharing transitions to a new guest identity and authentication model managed through Microsoft Entra B2B collaboration.
