Body
Objective
Following these steps will add users to a given course in D2L.
Environment
D2L
Before You Begin
If a user's account does not exist in the LMS then they cannot be added to any D2L course shell through the process outlined below. MSU NetIDs and Guest Accounts are all automatically added into the LMS, but the required processing time will vary based on the account type and whether required on-boarding steps are missing.
- Students - Added into D2L during matriculation from Slate to SIS Campus Solutions (current estimate is 24-48 hours after they become 'ADMITTED' in SIS Query)
- Employees (Faculty & Staff) - Added into D2L during the on-boarding process (time frame is not currently known, will likely depend on HR processing and the SAP record)
- Affiliates - Added into D2L after being created and processed by the ID Office (typically overnight)
- Guest Accounts - Added into D2L after the user submits the Okta verification code during registration (~60 minutes under normal service conditions but is affected by Okta/AD/Sailpoint incidents and heavy volume)
Steps
To add people individually:
- Select Communication>Classlist,
- Select the blue Add Participants button to enter names manually.
- Search for the user by name or email
- Check next to their name, select a role to the right and select a section,
- Select enroll selected users
(for editing roles such as course editor, they will have access to all sections even though a section was selected). Notes: Section is not required for Development Courses and Communities. If a section has more than 200 students, use batch enroll. If adding a course assistant or course editor or above, any section can be chosen, as that role will have access to all sections.
To add people in bulk:
- Select Communication>Batch Enroll
- From here you can upload a .csv file with the names and roles of the people to add. The page includes examples of how the file should be formatted.
For Batch Enroll, the link is the same in every course, and the file requires the course ID, so you can navigate to another course with the Communication link enabled to access Batch enroll, if the Communication tab is disabled. You can also use one file to enroll in multiple courses.
Additional Info
If Communication>Classlist is disabled, you can also access it by going to the Course Admin page, and then choosing Classlist from there.
