You receive a permissions error when trying to access a shared mailbox.

Resolution

  1. Confirm that you can access your shared mailbox from the web.
    • Navigate to http://spartanmail.msu.edu and login with your MSU NetID and Password
    • Click on your picture or circle with initials in it on the upper right hand section of the screen and select "Open another mailbox"
    • Enter the mailbox name email address with the Default email address that is used for that mailbox (mailboxes may have multiple aliases like netid@dept.msu.edu and netid@msu.edu).
    • See if you can open the mailbox. If you can open the mailbox, try sending from that mailbox. After sending from the mailbox look in the sent folder and make sure your message appears there.
    • If this test fails, contact the help desk and someone from the Messaging Team will have to look into the issue

  2. If everything works correctly perform the following steps in Outlook to open and test your shared mailbox.
    • Turn off Cached Mode and see if that works.
      1. From Outlook, select the file menu in the upper left and select Account Settings (white box) and select Account Settings from the options that are displayed.
      2. Select your email account and un-check Used Cached Exchange and select Next
      3. Save these settings
      4. Close Outlook 
      5. Open Outlook and re-test

  3. If everything works with Cached Mode completely turned off then download the address book and try again.
