Overview
The following information is primarily for the departments/units who host guests or conferences. Individual campus guests (such as hotel guests) are advised to take advantage of
MSUnet Wireless Guest (link), or to contact the sponsoring department/unit for assistance with accessing wired ethernet services.
Departments, colleges, or other units sometimes host guests or conferences on campus and may want "temporary" MSU NetIDs for greater internet access for the guests. There are actually no temporary NetIDs -- instead a department can choose to arrange for one or more additional temporary NetIDs to use as they wish, if MSUnet Wireless Guest (link) access is insufficient for the purpose.

Purchasing NetIDs for individual guest users
Departments or colleges who want to sponsor NetIDs to allow guests to use the ethernet in the residence halls or other campus buildings, as well as providing some other NetID services should contact the MSU ID Office at 517-355-4500 to discuss options.

Affiliate Group NetIDs for large groups/conferences
If a department/unit plans on having a larger group on campus where using individual NetIDs would not be practical, they should contact the Enterprise Information Stewardship at (517) 353-4856 to set up an affiliate group.

Requesting visitor access within computer classrooms
Units with computer classrooms (for instance within Residence Halls) can request temporary netids to allow access to machines within those labs. Contact IT Services Support for further assistance.
When printing is also needed, an advance reservation indicating the request for "visitor print access" must be submitted.

Support options for guest users
While MSU provides network access to campus guests with the MSUnet Wireless Guest (SSID) service, guest user support is limited to determining whether there is an issue with the MSU network. When the problem appears to be with the user's computer, consultants will refer the user to outside technical support services (e.g. Best Buy, Capital Macintosh, etc.).
