NetID - How to Set or Change a Secondary Email Address for Self-Service Password Resets

Objective

Following these steps will set a non-MSU email address as a backup email so you can reset your NetID password without any outside assistance.

Before You Begin

The first time you logged in to a site requiring Okta authentication you may have been prompted to do this already. These steps will also allow you to change an already set secondary email address.

Steps

1. Navigate to auth.msu.edu
2. Log in with your MSU email address and NetID password
3. Select your name in the upper right and choose Settings

4. In the upper right, select Edit Profile

5. Enter MSU NetID password
6. Verify your identity with your MFA credential
7. Select Edit next to Personal Information

8. Enter the non-MSU email address you’d like to use as a backup for your self-service password recovery in the Secondary email field
9. You will receive an email to the address you provided. Select Confirm Email Change to confirm the change.
10. You’re done! You now have a secondary email address added to your account so you can perform self-service password resets.
