Objective
Following these steps will reset your MSU NetID password.
Environment
N/A
Before You Begin
Locked Account: If your Okta account is locked you will not be able to change your password until after the lockout period. Wait 15 minutes and then try again.
Password Restrictions: Certain legacy systems are more restrictive on passwords than what Okta otherwise allows. Please see KB 1231 (link) for details.
If you are working remotely, after you change your password you will need to connect to the MSU VPN, lock your computer, and then unlock it with the new password. Otherwise the locally cached password will not update and will cause problems on your next login attempt.
If you are working on a domain-joined computer on campus, you will need to either reboot after resetting your password or lock your workstation and log back in. This is to update your cached credentials in Windows so it does not lock your account by trying to keep your logged in session alive with an old password.
