beSocratic - When Logged in it Only Shows Either a Blank Screen or Three Dots Cycling Over and Over

Summary

New users that haven't been added to a course in beSocratic may be able to log in, but will only see a blank white screen or three dots cycling with no indication of what is wrong.

Body

Problem

When logging in to beSocratic (besocratic.com), nothing appears to load. The page is either blank white, or blank with a set of three dots that keep cycling like it is trying to do something, but never advances.

Environment

Resolution

First eliminate browser issues as the cause:

  1. Clear cookies/cache from your browser. Instructions for common browsers are available in KB 15 (link).
  2. Try switching to incognito or inprivate browsing mode
  3. Try a different browser completely

If none of the above resolves the issue, it is likely caused by lack of access. Please contact your course instructor and verify that you have been added for beSocratic. Access is updated daily, so the access will be available the day after you are added.

Cause

Anyone with a MSU NetID or MSU Guest Account is able to log in to beSocratic. However, beSocratic will not load anything unless that account has been added to a course. Logging in without access to any course results in the blank screen / three dots cycling screen.

If access is confirmed, it may also be caused by browser issues.
