Student Information System - How To View Hold Information on Your Student Account

Holds may be put in place for many reasons. This article details how to find out the cause of the hold and who to contact to get it resolved.

Following the steps below will allow you to see why a hold has been placed on your student account and get information on who to contact to get the hold resolved.

Student Information System

Before You Begin

You will need to have access to Student Information System and know your current MSU NetID password. See KB 1085 (link) for password reset instructions, if needed.

You will also need your multi-factor authentication (MFA) credential to successfully log in to Student Information System. See KB 957 for Okta MFA instructions

Steps

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to student.msu.edu (Student Information System)
  2. Select the Login button near the top-left of the page
  3. Log in using your full MSU email address and your current MSU NetID password
  4. Verify your login with the MFA credential of your choice
  5. Look at the Tasks tile on the main page to see if any holds appear

  6. Select the Tasks tile to open it
  7. Select Holds on the left side of the page

  8. Select each hold to open a pop-up window with information about the hold and the office you can contact to resolve it

  9. You're done! Now you know what holds are on your account and who to contact to resolve them.
