Objective
Following these steps will walk you through the initial setup process for e-prescribing controlled substances, including enabling and using EPCS.

Steps
- Accept Terms and Conditions
- Navigate to Settings (gear icon) > Clinicals > EPCS Set-up Admin and accept the EPCS terms & conditions.
- Click the User Profile: Identity Verification (link on page) and accept terms & conditions in the Identity Verification tab.
Providers who practiced in MSUHealth/athena prior to 7/1/2020 must toggle to their previous username (aka “main” username):
- Select the old HT department (not ending in HC or SHS) from the drop-down option in the bottom right corner.
- EXAMPLE: If current department= “Sports Med – Eyde Suite 420 – HC”, select “Sports Med – Eyde Suite 420” to trigger main username in top right corner.
- Set up Two Factor Authentication Token
- Navigate to the Settings (gear icon) > My Configurations > User Profile > Credentials tab and click Add New.
- Go to the Credentials tab.
- Enter the following information:
- Credential: the credential ID (alpha numeric, no spaces) from the Symantec VIP Access app on your phone,
- Nickname: optional, may be useful if you have multiple credentials,
- Security Code: the rolling code from the Symantec VIP Access app on your phone,
- Password: the athenaNet specific password created in the Password tab of the User Profile (created outside of the NetID password workflow).
You may be prompted to create a new athenaNet password. This cannot be the same as the previous athenanet password.
Password requirements:
- not a dictionary word,
- upper and lower case letters,
- at least one number or special character.
- Request and Validate Confirmation Code
- Navigate to the Identity Verification tab
- Select the Request Code button. An email will be sent to you that includes a 6-digit code
- Enter the code from the email in the Validate Code box
- Select Validate Code
- You're done!
