Body

Objective

Following these steps will add your Spartan Mail account to a local Mac Mail client.

Environment

macOS 10.14 or higher
Mac Mail

Before You Begin

Note that email clients such as MacOS (Apple) Mail (currently) that support modern authentication will work with the Spartan / Microsoft 365 service on a self-support basis.

However, if you are no longer licensed for the use of the MS Outlook client for Windows, the BEST options is to use the Outlook Web Application (OWA) through a web browser, at https://spartanmail.msu.edu .

Steps

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Select Internet Accounts (aka Accounts & Passwords; aka Passwords & Accounts).
  3. Select the plus (+) sign to display a list of typical connections.
  4. From the list on the right, select Exchange and follow the prompts.
    • Enter your MSU email address in the form of NetID@msu.edu
    • Enter your password (must be less than 365 days old).
  5. Open Mac Mail and disable the old configuration:
    1. Drop down the Mail menu and select Preferences
    2. In the dialog box select the Accounts icon
    3. Select the old MSU email configuration entry in the side bar menu
    4. UNcheck the Enable this account (POP3 or IMAP) selection.
    5. Close the dialog to save the new setting.
  6. You're done! You have added your Spartan Mail account to your Mac Mail client.
