What Is the Service?

The Data Center Support service provides comprehensive operational and technical assistance to MSU faculty, staff, and affiliates who are current or prospective tenants of the MSU Data Center. Our support offerings are designed to ensure a seamless and efficient experience throughout the lifecycle of colocation and infrastructure management.

Who Is Eligible to Use It?

Data Center Services are available to MSU departments, faculty, staff, and sponsored affiliates.

How Do I Use It?

Data Center Support Services include:

  • Hardware Installation/Decommission
    End-to-end support for the physical deployment or removal of hardware assets within the data center. This includes rack mounting, cabling, labeling, initial power-up, and coordination with IT teams for configuration and testing. Decommissioning services ensure secure removal and documentation of retired equipment.

  • Physical Access Requests to Data Center and Tier-1 Locations
    Access authorization for individuals needing entry to secured data center areas. Requests are processed in accordance with MSU’s physical security policies, including badge provisioning, escort requirements (if applicable), and access logs.

  • Data Center Network/Telecom Requests
    Fulfillment of network connectivity and telecom service needs within the data center, including port provisioning, VLAN assignment, IP address allocation, and patch panel management. Support also covers troubleshooting and changes to network configurations.

  • 24/7 IT Monitoring Requests
    Coordination and implementation of infrastructure monitoring to ensure continuous visibility into the health and performance of systems. Includes alert setup for power supplies, device uptime, network connectivity, and escalation protocols for incident response.

  • Asset Auditing
    Periodic audits to verify the presence, condition, and documentation of colocated assets. Auditing ensures inventory accuracy, compliance with capital asset management, and lifecycle.

  • Incident Resolution
    Responsive support for operational issues affecting colocated services, including hardware failures, connectivity disruptions, power anomalies, and environmental alerts. Incidents are tracked and managed through to resolution with clear communication and root cause analysis when applicable.

  • Consultation Services
    Advisory services for capacity planning, risk mitigation strategies, and alignment with MSU’s IT standards and sustainability goals.
