What Is the Service?
Workstation Management Services (WMS) offers Hardware Support to academic, administrative, clinical, and research units. WMS partners with each unit to find the right level of support based on different environments and needs.
WMS provides front line in-person and remote support to keep MSU-owned devices running smoothly throughout their the entire hardware lifecycle.
Who Is Eligible to Use It?
WMS provides hardware support to MSU departments to help:
- Consolidate support, inventory, and refresh for all supported staff
- Streamline processes to assess current needs and to model effective stewardship of MSU resources
- Improve customer experience
How Do I Use It?
Hardware Support follows the full asset management life cycle of MSU-owned devices. This service includes:
- Assessment of Hardware Needs
- Review current setup of equipment
- Ensure desired workspace has network access
- Initiate the setup process
- Order Device
- Coordinate the purchase of the device
- Purchase a service warranty for the device
- Receive & Set Up Device
- Set up device, including:
- asset tagging
- imaging
- software installation
- Deploy Device
- Deliver and install device in desired workspace
- Transfer data from old equipment to new device
- Take old equipment back to prep for redeployment or surplus
- Manage Device
- Address errors upon notification (assumes IT Service Desk has already attempted first-tier support)
- Provide temporary loaner computer (upon request)
- If operationally necessary
- Subject to availability
- Return, Retire, or Dispose Device
- Includes the wiping of data and disposal or recycling of equipment
