Remote Desktop Connection to My Computer

Objective

The following steps detail how to remotely connect to your office computer from home or elsewhere.

Environment

Windows 11

Before You Begin

Find The Name of The Computer You Want To Connect To:

To find your computer's name in Windows 11, right click on the Windows Logo, and select System. 

The Full Device Name is the computer name you want to use to connect.

Connect to MSU VPN:

Connect to the MSU VPN at https://new.vpn.msu.edu/ using your MSU NetID and Password.

If this is the first time logging into the VPN on your device, you will need to install the VPN Client. The instructions can be found below:

Steps - Remotely Connect to the Computer

  1. Type mstsc into the Windows "Search" box on your taskbar and press enter. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Type your computer's Full Device Name into the box.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. Click on ConnectUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Enter your MSU Email and Password. After pressing okay, you will be logged into your computer.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

Additional Information

  • Make sure the computer you are trying to connect to is Turned On and connected via Ethernet to MSU's Network
