Objective
Following these steps will download and install the macOS BIG-IP Edge client used to connect to the virtual private network (VPN) at MSU.

Before You Begin
If you have not logged in to the VPN before, you will need to. See KB 28 (link) for instructions.
The thick client is not required to access the VPN. You can use a browser and log in to vpn.msu.edu without it.
An issue has been identified with the BIG-IP Edge client and macOS 13.3. It currently does not work, so if you are on 13.3 you will need to connect to vpn.msu.edu and use the browser version to connect. See this
status alert (link) for the current status of this issue.
Steps
- Log in to vpn.msu.edu and confirm your identiy using your multi-factor authentication (MFA) credential.
- Under "Download Thick Client", select Mac Client.
- When it prompts, "Do you want to allow downloads on vpn.msu.edu?", select Allow
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click Mac-EdgeClient.zip
- This will create a Mac-EdgeClient folder in the same location as the .zip file
- Open the Mac-EdgeClient folder and then open mac_edgevpn.pkg to start installing the BIG-IP Edge Client
- Take all default options and select Close to finish
If you're prompted with "Installer would to access files in your ... folder" select OK to continue.
- Once the install is complete, restart your computer
- You're done! The BIG-IP Edge Client is now downloaded and installed on your device. It will appear in your Applications folder.
The first time you launch the newly installed client it will install some additional components automatically.
Additional Info
When using the BIG-IP Edge Client to connect, you do not need to navigate to vpn.msu.edu. Launch the app and log in to connect to the VPN.
When installed, an F5 "shield" icon will appear on your menu bar. You can use that icon to turn your VPN connection on and off.
