Objective
Track and Update Broad IT Equipment Ownership.
Environment
Computing(Desktops, Laptops, Tablets) Devices:
Monitors and Other Technology(TVs, Printers, Cameras, etc.):
Locate Equipment Asset Tag
Dell Computing Devices:
- Laptops: Typically located on the top of the laptop when closed
- Desktops: Typically located on the Top or Underside of the device
- Utilizes MSU-Tag

Non-Dell Computing Devices:
- Located on the bottom of the device
- Utilizes C-Tag

Monitors:
- Typically located on the back left or right of the monitor
- Utilizes M-Tag

Printers:
- Typically located on the front of the or side of printer
- Utilizes P-Tag

Cameras and Other Audio-Visual Equipment:

*If equipment has a different inventory tag, or does not have one, Please submit a ticket to Broad IT for proper tracking and updating of equipment ownership and location.
Tracking Equipment By Department
Monitors and Other Technology:
- Navigate to inventory.broad.msu.edu/Inventory and log in with MSU credentials.
- Select the Business Manager Department Search at the top

- Choose your desired Department and Asset Type and hit Go

- You will be returned a list of Equipment including Asset ID, Assigned User, Department, Room Number, and Make/Model

- *Note: The returned list's default sorting is by Date Verified. You can sort by any of the fields by selecting the Blue Column Header.
Computing Devices:
- Navigate to the Broad Computers by Department for Business Managers here: Broad Computers by Department for Business Managers and log in with MSU credentials
- Click the Magnifying Glass at the top to search for your Department

- Enter your Department into the Search Box and hit Search

- Select the Check next to the result that appears

- Select Insert Checked at the bottom

- Select Run Report at the top

- You will be returned a list of Computing Devices including Service Tag(Asset Id), Owner, Department, Room Number, Make/Model, and Installation Date
- *Notes: Please note that as this inventory system is New the information returned may be incomplete. Please report any errors or inconsistencies to Broad IT for correction
Updating Equipment Ownership
Monitors and Other Technology:
- Navigate to inventory.broad.msu.edu/Inventory and log in with MSU credentials.
- Enter the Asset Tag of the equipment you wish to update into the Asset ID field

- Enter the information of the new owner is the Move Details Fields

- Select Move in the bottom right
- You will then be displayed with the New Owner and device information. Ensure all data is correct.

Computing Devices:
- Navigate to Asset Lifecycle Management | Michigan State University and log in with MSU credentials
- To Update a Single Asset enter the Asset ID in the search bar and hit search
- The Computing Device Should populate below

- In the Lifecycle Step drop down, select Move and then choose GO

- Under Current Details enter the MSU Email for the new Owner and hit search

- The New Owning Acct/Department will then autofill
- To add the new room number, Enter BCC in the location (BCC inlcudes Minskoff, Eppley and North) and select Search. Then enter the room number. (E = Eppley, N = North, and M = Minskoff).

- Scroll down and select Validate & Submit Form
- Upon a successful update, you will see a recap of your updated asset

*Note: If your computing device does not show up when searching for it via Asset Tag, please submit a ticket to Broad IT.
