Differences Between Microsoft Copilot (Enterprise) and Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft Copilot (Enterprise) and Microsoft 365 Copilot are both AI-driven assistants, but they serve different purposes and audiences. Microsoft Copilot (Enterprise) is integrated directly into Windows 11 and is designed to optimize individual users' experiences with their personal devices. It helps with tasks like coding, writing, generating images, and answering general questions. It does not require purchasing additional licensing to use.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is specifically tailored for enterprise and professional environments. It is an AI-powered productivity assistant designed to enhance your experience with Microsoft 365 applications. It integrates seamlessly into apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, helping you work smarter and more efficiently. Whether you're drafting documents, analyzing data, creating presentations, or managing emails, Microsoft Copilot 365 can assist you every step of the way. This version does require purchasing additional licensing to use.

Microsoft Copilot (Enterprise)
MSU Faculty, staff, and students with a Microsoft license can access Microsoft Copilot by visiting copilot.cloud.microsoft or logging into portal.office.com and clicking on the Copilot icon. Note: The Windows Copilot app is also installed automatically on Windows 11 computers.
How to Purchase Microsoft 365 Copilot at Michigan State University
Faculty and staff can order a yearly license of Microsoft 365 Copilot through the MSU Tech Store using a departmental account.
Remember that this is an additional license and is not needed to use the built-in Microsoft Copilot (Enterprise) version.
Once an order is processed, you will receive a confirmation email from the Tech Store.
You will know when the Microsoft 365 Copilot license has been added to your account when a CoPilot icon shows up in your applications. In Word, Excel, and PowerPoint a colored Copilot icon will appear in the right-hand corner of the application. In MS Teams it will show up in the top left-hand corner. In Outlook it will appear in the middle of the menu bar as a blue and white icon when creating a new message. Please note, however, that as application updates occur, the location and/or colors of these icons could change.
Please allow 4-7 business days for the license to apply to your account. This occurs on the vendor side and is not within MSU's ability to control.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Requirements
To use Microsoft 365 Copilot, your Office must be on the "current channel". To determine if you are on the current channel, select File->Account from an Office application (like MS Word) and look at the “About Word” (or App that is open) section. It needs to indicate “Current Channel” or “Monthly Channel”.
