D2L - How To Add the Single Profile Widget to the Homepage of a D2L Course

Objective

Following these steps will add the Single Profile Widget to the homepage of a D2L course.

Steps

Accessing the Homepage Editor

  1. Log in to D2L and navigate to the course you want to edit.
  2. From the Navigation bar, select Course Admin.
  3. Under Course Admin, choose Homepages.
  4. Locate MSU Default Course Homepage, select the drop-down arrow next to it, and select Copy.
  5. Once the copy is created, select the link titled MSU Default Course Homepage - Copy to begin editing.

Adding a System Widget

  1. Scroll down to the bottom of the Widgets section
  2. Select Add Widgets
  3. From the menu, select Single Profile Widget
  4. Select Add
  5. Drag and drop the widget to the desired location on the homepage.
  6. Select Save and Close

Switching to the Newly Created Custom Homepage

  1. Select the Active Homepage drop-down and select the Homepage copy with the widget included
  2. Select Apply

Additional Info

Over the weekend of Saturday, May 17, 2025 the MSU Default Course Homepage was updated to remove the Single Profile Widget from the default template due to low adoption. The widget remains active and available for instructors who wish to use it.
