Executive ITSD Summary

  • MSU-CHM users may run into issues trying to do NBME testing. If ITSD cannot resolve the issue, send a ticket to HIT Educational Technology to assist.
  • Mac users should use Safari to download the software, as it apparently makes a difference.
    • If this fails, some users have had success creating a separate user account on the Mac and using that exclusively for NBME testing
  • The newest version of the secure browsing software should be installed before every exam to ensure best compatibility (Link: https://wbt.nbme.org/wbtexam/home)

What is NBME Testing?

NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) exams are standardized assessments used in medical education for clerkship and subject exams. These exams are delivered through a Secure Browser that locks down your computer to prevent unauthorized access during testing. The exams are web-proctored, meaning you’ll be monitored remotely while taking the test.

  3. Run Workstation Certification: Launch Secure Browser → Click Test Compatibility → Select Examinee Personal Laptop Certification. Complete the sample exam to confirm readiness.
  4. Re-Certify Before Each Exam: Any new software installed after certification can cause failure.
