Overview
Users who create a Google Calendar using their MSU Google Apps Education Edition account are advised to access that calendar by use of a browser.
For the most part, synchronization to calendar software and handheld devices is precluded because most calendar software packages and handheld devices are incapable of authenticating properly through a Secure Sign-On (SSO) login.
This is a known issue at a number of institutions using SSO and is not exclusive to MSU.
We regret that this inherent limitation may be inconvenient to users. The work-arounds listed below may address many users' needs, even though they require some extra effort and additional steps.

Read-only access
Google provides a "private address" function that may be a suitable workaround for many users.
- Click on the down arrow to the right of the appropriate calendar name to drop down a menu of choices.
- Select Calendar Settings.
- Make sure the Calendar Details tab is active. The Private Address buttons are at the bottom of the page.
- Click on the HTML button to generate a private but unauthenticated url to read your calendar details from using your device's browser software.
Please refer to Google's support page(s) (link) if you need additional guidance or information.

Synchronization work around
The following is a possible work around:
- Create a personal calendar.google.com (link) account. When using your your calendar software or handheld device, synchronize to this non-MSU Google account.
- Share that calendar with full rights to your MSU Google Apps Education Edition account ID (youractualNetID@msu.edu)
- Once you are logged in to your MSU Google Apps Education Edition account, events as posted on the other calendar should also display in your Education Edition calendar, and you should be able to add, delete, or update events as necessary.
