PACS - How to Import a CD into PACS Cube

Following these steps will import a patient CD into PACS Cube.

Steps

In order to import patient CDs into PACS Cube, you must first generate an outside order, and then you can import images using PACS Cube Media Importer.

Generate Order from Outside Films:

  1. Login to the secure WebARIS site (http://www.rad.msu.edu/webaris).
  2. Click Find Patient (upper left corner).
  3. Type in the appropriate ID for the patient you are looking for, click Search.
  4. Expand the ID to show all the patient visits, then click the date of the current exam.
  5. Click Functns link in the upper part of the patient face sheet (this will bring up the functions box for the patient).
  6. Click the PACS Mgmt. & MWL tab.
  7. Click Generate PACS for Current Exam & Outside Films link.
  8. Fill in the fields appropriately, then click Generate PACS order for Outside Films.
  9. A popup will appear confirming the MWL order has been sent to PACS.
  10. Close the Functions box.
  11. Click Return on the patient's face sheet (this will take you out to the Daily Schedule).

PacsCube Media Cd/DVD Importer:

  1. Place the DICOM media that you would like to import into the CD/DVD reader of the PC.
  2. Double click on the PacsCube CD Import Icon found on the desktop.
  3. When the PacsCube Media Import dialog box appears click on the Import button.
  4. PacsCube Media Importer first checks to see if the CD/DVD you are trying to import is a DICOM complaint disc that contains a DICOMDIR database that defines the content of the disc. If a DICOMDIR database is found containing patient and/or study information, the information will be loaded into the left hand window detailing the studies found on the disc as seen below step 5:
    • If no information appears on the left side of the screen after the import process is complete it is very possible that the disc you are trying to import is NOT a DICOM complaint disc. Please see the advance searching options below.
  5. Select the study on the left that you would like to import. Once selected the patient and study information will appear on the right hand side of the screen as seen below:
  6. If you would like to edit the patient and or study information once the study is selected click on the Edit button to display the edit window.
  7. Editing Patient/Study Information - When editing patient or study information you have 2 choices.
    • You may edit the information manually by typing information directly into the Search Edit Fields.
    • You may choose to edit the information automatically by using a Modality Worklist.

To use the Modality Worklist option, follow the steps below:

  1. Place the DICOM media that you would like to import into the CD/DVD reader of the PC.
  2. Double click on the PacsCube CD Import Icon found on the desktop:
  3. When the PacsCube Media Import dialog box appears click on the Import button.
  4. PacsCube Media Importer first checks to see if the CD/DVD you are trying to import is a DICOM complaint disc that contains a DICOMDIR database that defines the content of the disc. If a DICOMDIR database is found containing patient and/or study information, the information will be loaded into the left hand window detailing the studies found on the disc as seen below step 5:
    • If no information appears on the left side of the screen after the import process is complete it is very possible that the disc you are trying to import is NOT a DICOM complaint disc. Please see the advance searching options below.
  5. Select the study on the left that you would like to import. Once selected the patient and study information will appear on the right hand side of the screen as seen below:
  6. If you would like to edit the patient and or study information once the study is selected click on the Edit button to display the edit window.
  7. Editing Patient/Study Information - When editing patient or study information you have 2 choices.
    • You may edit the information manually by typing information directly into the Search Edit Fields.
    • You may choose to edit the information automatically by using a Modality Worklist.
    1. Click the clear button.
    2. Type in the patient's name/ID study date that you would like to search for.
    3. Select the Remote Server you would like to search.
    4. Click the Search button.
    5. The results will be displayed within the WML Query Results window.
    6. Select a patient/study from the results window. The selected study will be automatically applied to the edit fields below. You may additionally choose to identify the study as an outside exam by appending the words (Outside Exam) to the study description.
    7. Select the OK button when you are done and the left hand side of the PacsCube CD Import screen will be updated with the new patient/study information
    8. Sending studies to PACS - to send a study to PACS click on the Send button following the steps below:
    9. Select the studies (by checking the boxes) that you would like to import into PACS from the left side of the screen.
    10. Next click on the transfer => button to extract the studies from the CD/DVD.
      • This will move the studies into the Selected Studies window. During the extraction process a dialog box will be displayed letting you know that depending on the number of images extracted from the CD/DVD might take a few minutes. If you have selected a study by mistake at any time you may use the <= button to remove it from the list.
    11. Once the studies have been extracted from the CD/DVD they are ready to be sent to PACS.
    12. Select a sending destination from the Server window and click the Submit button.
    • If Localhost is chosen as a server destination the study/images will be sent to PacsCube local hard disc.
  8. Once the Submit button is selected the images will be sent to PACS. To check the status of the studies/images being sent click on the Queue Info button
