Objective

Following these steps will obtain the IPv4 address your computer is using for its network connectivity.

Steps

In General

  1. Visit Google.com or another favorite search engine website.
  2. Type what is my IPv4 address and hit ENTER.

If on a Microsoft Windows based computer, use the following:

  1. Click on the windows Icon in the lower left of the desktop screen
  2. Type CMD and hit enter
  3. Locate the command prompt window and type in Ipconfig /all
  4. Your computer may have several network adapters, but we are looking for an IPv4 Address.

If on a MacOS based device

  1. Hold down option while you click on Wi-Fi status it will give you a details window

Alternative on MacOS from a wired connection

  1. Navigate to System Preferences > Network

  2. Select the connection you want to view the IP address for
