Question
How does someone receive access to systems at MSU?
Answer
All MSU users automatically obtain a set amount of access depending on their status at the university (Student, Faculty, Support Staff, etc). Any access needs outside of those birthright permissions must be requested through MSU IT by way of an Access Request.
The list of available access requests can be found at the
TDX Client Portal by clicking the Request Access button. A user must have an active MSU NetID before a request can be submitted for them to receive access.
Any user with an active MSU NetID can submit a request, but all requests will require the following approvals:
- Departmental Administrator approval
- Every request will require approval by the MSU Department that the user is employed by.
- If a user is not currently employed or does not have a registered department code you will need to list the department sponsoring the individual. Instructions for changing this can be found on each access form.
- Application Steward approval
- Each application or service owner may designate certain approvers to review requests for their applications/service.
- Ad-hoc Approvers
- At any time during the approval process, a current approver may include an additional individual to review and approve the request.
These approval steps are sent out simultaneously to all listed approvers. If any approver rejects the request, the process is stopped, the requester is notified of the denial and the request ticket is closed. If an approval step has not been acted on in 30 days, the request will be denied automatically and closed.
Note: The workflow cannot be re-started for a request that has been rejected or timed-out. A new request must be submitted in either case.
Once the ticket has received all necessary approvals, it’s status will switch from New to Open and be placed it into a queue of tickets to be processed by MSU IT. Upon completion, the ticket’s status will be updated to Resolved and an email will be sent to the requester notifying them.
An individual may check the status of their open ticket by clicking the ”
How do I check the status of my ticket?” link on the
IT Help website or by contacting the IT Help Desk.
