General Questions
Q: What are non-credit programs at MSU?
MSU offers non-credit professional development programs and certificate courses through its online learning platform. These programs are designed for working professionals and members of the public who want to build skills without pursuing a degree. They do not count toward a degree and do not appear on a traditional MSU academic transcript.
Q: Who can enroll in non-credit programs?
Anyone can enroll — you do not need to be an MSU student, alumni, or Michigan resident. There are no academic prerequisites or admission requirements for most non-credit programs.

Creating Your Account
Q: Do I need an account to register?
Yes. Members of the public must create an account for the non-credit registration system before registering for non-credit programs. Current MSU students and employees will need to register for this system as well. Go to the Log in at cart.next.msu.edu to set up your account.
Q: How do I create an account?
To set up your account, first navigate to the Learner Portal (link)
For new learners
- Create an account as a New User
- Enter your email address and retype your email address to confirm.
This is case-sensitive. When you log in to your account you must enter your email address with the exact same capitalization as what you use here.
For example, entering Abc@xyz.com at the login will fail if you set up your account as abc@xyz.com. The capital 'A' makes it different.
- Select Create Account
Next,
Create your profile
- Enter your First and Last name
- Enter your home address and phone number
- Enter your Employer Information and Job Title (if required). This information is important for specific program offerings.
- Next, please select your contact preferences and review the privacy policy.
- Click Submit
- Next, please check your email from Michigan State University to set up your password. The email will come from noreply@next.msu.edu.
- Once you have created your password, log in to the Learner Portal or browse the course catalog to view and register for course or program offerings.
Save your Guest Account email address and password — you will need them to log in to register and access your courses.
