How to Request Access to the VPN at MSU (F5 Campus VPN)

Objective

Following the steps below will request access to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) at MSU.

Environment

All currently-employed faculty and staff and currently enrolled students are automatically given access to the F5 Campus VPN and only need to submit a request if they need higher access levels. Those that will not have access by default and must submit a request include:

• contractors,
• temporary/on-call employees,
• vendors, and
• visitors.

Before You Begin

The request must be submitted by a faculty or staff person. Students cannot submit their own request. Students should have their professor or staff person from the department submit a request on their behalf.

Steps

1. Go to https://go.msu.edu/access-requests
2. Select Request, next to Virtual Private Network (VPN)
3. On the form that appears, enter a name or NetID in the User Search field
   1. Select Search or press ENTER
   2. A new dropdown should appear under the User Search field saying Please Select
   3. Select that dropdown and then choose the name of the person you wish to request a change to their VPN access
      Completing these steps should enable the Add User button on the right side of the form
4. Select the Add User button
5. In the bottom section of the form, select the appropriate Action for each listed Access Required level
6. Enter the business need in Business Need / Comments
7. Select Check Form
8. If everything is filled out properly, you should then be able to select Submit Access Request
9. You're done! The request has been filled out and sent in for processing.
