Question
What is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and why does MSU use one?
Answer
A VPN is a way to establish a secure connection between devices across an otherwise unsecured network.
Michigan State University (MSU) faculty, staff, students, and affiliates may need to connect to servers or tools hosted on the MSU campus network when they are not physically on campus. Secure connections are vital to protect important data. MSU's F5 Campus VPN service provides a secure connection to the MSU campus network from any location around the world.
The F5 Campus VPN is not a proxy service and does not provide secure access to servers that are not on the MSU campus network.
