Is there an option for departments to request NetIDs for users who are not current employees, students, or retirees?

MSU Departments can request a login-only FPID NetID for individuals such as contract workers, members of official MSU Affiliate Groups and non-appointed visiting scholars who require login access to MSU systems. (Access is based on service provider requirements.) Refer affiliate questions to the MSU ID Office. To do this you can Request a NetID for an Affiliate (link).

Requests from departments for affiliated individuals to acquire an MSU email account will be vetted by the ID Office. A business reason defining why the MSU email is required for the affiliate to perform their job on behalf of MSU must be provided. When accommodated, an email alias is associated with that FPID NetID which will appear as firstname.lastname@affiliate.msu.edu. MSU NetIDs are assigned to all current faculty, staff, students and retirees. A NetID is a unique alphanumeric identifier auto-generated from the user's name. Your NetID is your personal identifier at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services. Your NetID also determines your MSU email address which is netid@msu.edu (e.g. the NetID msuspartan would have the email address msuspartan@msu.edu).
