Is there an option for departments to purchase NetIDs for users who are not centrally-funded?

MSU Departments can request a login-only FPID NetID for individuals such as contract workers and non-appointed visiting scholars who do not qualify for centrally-funded access as needed for their assignment or as required for business needs. Refer affiliate questions to the MSU ID Office.

In some situations, the Affiliate ID Card & NetID Request form available from the MSU ID Office must be submitted for a sponsored individual.

In limited situations, the ID Office can accommodate a need for an affiliated individual to have an email account and address. When accommodated, an email account is associated with that FPID NetID which will appear as firstname.lastname@affiliate.msu.edu. The user will login to systems and Spartanmail.msu.edu using the FPID NetID (f000xxxx / f000xxxx@msu.edu) but the email address will work as any email would.

Sentinel authorization for purchased NetIDs

Login-only accounts (FPID) may be authorized for individual Sentinel applications by having an MSU employee submit a Default Form from the Access Management Service Offering page (link).

MSU NetIDs are assigned to all current faculty, staff, students and retirees. A NetID is a unique alphanumeric identifier auto-generated from the user's name. Your NetID is your personal identifier at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services. Your NetID also determines your MSU email address which is netid@msu.edu (e.g. the NetID msuspartan would have the email address msuspartan@msu.edu).
