How to Install, Set up, and Grant Permissions for TeamViewer Host using Jamf Pro

Objective

Following these steps will install TeamViewer Host on your device and configure it so remote support may access it.

Environment

macOS
Jamf Pro

Before You Begin

Your device must be enrolled in Jamf to follow this process. Contact your local IT if you need assistance getting it enrolled.

Steps

Install TeamViewer Host
1. On a macOS device that is enrolled in Jamf Pro, open the Self Service application
2. Find the Utilities category on the left.
3. Find the item labeled TeamViewer Host and click Install.

4. The latest version of TeamViewer is installed
Set up TeamViewer Host
1. Once TeamViewer is installed, select Continue
2. Optional - either:
  - set a password for unattended access and select Continue; or
  - bypass this step and select Skip
    You may set a password for unattended access in TeamViewer Preferences at any time
3. Select Finish
4. TeamViewer Host is now set up
Grant Required Permissions to TeamViewer Host
1. The following window will appear. Note that the Accessibility and Full Disk Access permissions have already been granted by Jamf Pro.

2. To grant Screen Recording permissions, click the Request Access button

3. When TeamViewer requests screen recording access from macOS, the following pop-up will appear. Click Open System Preferences to have macOS guide you to the proper section.

4. System Preferences will open to the Security and Privacy > Privacy > Screen Recording section. Check the box next to TeamViewer Host to allow Screen Recording.

  Although User Account Control shows this preference pane as locked, even standard users may grant this permission. No administrator access is required to grant Screen Recording permission; however, it cannot be done programmatically or remotely. This box must be checked by a human in front of the computer.
5. When new permissions are granted, the application must quit in order to take advantage of the new settings. Click Quit Now to quit TeamViewer.

6. TeamViewer will restart automatically. A dialog box will appear letting you know how to use TeamViewer Host. Click OK.

7. You may be prompted to allow notifications from TeamViewer. Click Allow.

8. TeamViewer now has all required permissions for remote access.
Using TeamViewer Host
1. When working with an MSU IT staff member, you may be asked for your TeamViewer ID and Password before he/she may assist you. To access this information, select the TeamViewer icon from the menu bar in the upper right corner of your screen, and click Show Status Dialog.

2. The following dialog box will appear. Give the MSU IT staff member this information so that he/she may connect to your computer for remote assistance.

Never give your TeamViewer ID and/or Password to anyone that you do not trust.

Never give your TeamViewer ID and/or Password to anyone with whom you did not initiate a support call, chat, email, or ticket.
