How to Create an Out of Office Message in Spartan Mail (Spartan 365).

Objective

Following these steps will set up an automatic reply message that will be sent to anyone who sends you an email while it is active.

Before You Begin

The default behavior for automatic replies is they will only be sent to senders within MSU. There is an option to enable it to go to all senders, including setting up a different message depending on if the sender is from MSU or not from MSU.

Steps

  1. Login to Spartanmail.msu.edu and select the settings (gear) icon and then select View all Outlook settings

  2. On the new screen that opens, select Mail
  3. Select Automatic replies
  4. Toggle the slider for Automatic replies on so that it is filled green to indicate it is On
  5. Under Send automatic replies inside your organization, enter the message you wish to use to respond to senders

  6. OPTIONAL:
    • You can set a range of dates that your message will be active to send
    • You can also check the box for Send replies outside your organization. If you check this box, you can also designate a different message to send to people that are not part of MSU that email you.
  7. Select Save
  8. You're done! You've successfully set up and enabled your Out of Office (vacation) message!
