Problem
When traveling and attempting to use provided wireless networks, ESET may prevent the Mac from redirecting to the network's login page, preventing successful connections.
Environment
macOS
ESET
Resolution
Until ESET fixes the Captive Portal issue for macOS, there are a few ways to work around the issue:
- When travelling with a MAC, if you are not prompted to login to the wi-fi network, open your browser of choice and go http://neverssl.com. This should force the browser to trigger the login process.
- Instead, you could add a shortcut to your desktop that launches http://neverssl.com to use when not prompted for the login.
- Finally, you could also set your home page settings to http://neverssl.com
In each of these cases, if you want a different site that does not use https encryption you can use that instead of http://neverssl.com. http://neverssl.com is suggested because it is a known quantity that has worked for this process.
Cause
This is currently a known issue with ESET, necessitating the workarounds above.
