Note: The term "Blackout Window" is used by our vendor to refer to a designated period during which changes or deployments are deferred. While this terminology originates from the vendor, we recognize the importance of using inclusive and clear language internally. We may refer to it as a Change Pause or Change Freeze in our communications.

Why are Deferments Necessary?
Deferment windows are implemented to prevent disruptions during critical periods, such as the start of a semester or final exams. By deferring Changes, we can ensure that educational technology remains uninterrupted during these key times. This practice underscores the commitment to prioritizing stakeholders' needs, providing educators and students with the reassurance that no unexpected complications will arise during essential moments of the academic year.

What is a Change Freeze?

What is the difference between Change Freeze, Change Deferment, and Change Pause?
- Change Deferments are restrictions on updates, upgrades, and other actions affecting academic technology during periods when outages could disrupt teaching and learning. During deferment, Changes require Director approval to proceed.
- Change Pause is a period when Changes undergo additional scrutiny, in consideration of our business partners, and does not require Director approval.
- Change Freeze is to ensure that no new changes create unforeseen issues, allowing teams to focus on maintaining reliability and smooth operations during these important times.

What steps should I take to implement a Change during Deferment and Pause?
All Changes, including Standard Changes (previously called business-as-usual Changes), must be approved by an Associate, Assistant, or Director. The only exception is an Emergency Break/Fix, which does not require this level of approval.
Emergency Changes will follow the ECAB workflow in TDX. For more information regarding Change Management, visit: the Change Management Process Guide
- Locate the TDX Change Order submission email
- Forward the email to your unit Associate, Assistant, or Director seeking approval to perform the Change during deferment
- If approved, attach the email to the Change Order
- From the Change Order, locate the Attachment field and click the +
- Select the Browse button
- Select the attachment and click Open
- Select Upload
If the wrong file is uploaded, select delete to remove the attachment and start the attachment process over.

Can I reschedule my approved Change Order within the Change Deferment window?
Yes, but you’ll need to restart the Request for Change workflow (link), confirm that the new date doesn’t create a conflict in the Change Calendar, and get approval from your unit’s Associate, Assistant, or Director to attach to the Change Order.
