Objective
Following these steps will download a copy of the files from your Spartan Drive to a local machine.
Environment
Spartan Drive
Before You Begin
You may be prompted to verify your identity with your multi-factor authentication (MFA) credential. Have it ready just in case.
Check your local storage limits before attempting this process, as Spartan Drive may have a large amount of data to copy.
This process is primarily intended for people who need to save their files because they are leaving MSU and will be losing access to their Spartan Drive account. Spartan Drive is backed up regularly and separate backups to local machines are not necessary.
Steps
- Go to portal.office.com
- Log in with your MSU email and NetID password, then verify your identity with your MFA credential
- Select the waffle menu and then select the OneDrive icon
- Select My files from the menu on the left side of the page
- Select the files and folders you wish to copy, placing a checkmark next to each of them
- Select Download from the top of the screen
Please note the Download button does not appear until you have selected some folders from the list. If you used Select All and still don't see this option, try selecting individual folders to download instead.
- You're done! The files will be downloaded to a compressed file folder and stored in your default downloads folder
Additional Info
If you had shared files from your Spartan Drive with other users, you may wish to alert them that the files will be going away when you lose access to your account.
