General Information on Teams Sites and Shared Mailboxes for Registered Student Organizations (Spartan 365)

Overview

Registered Student Organizations (RSO's) are approved and established thru Student Life (studentlife.msu.edu). Student Life has information on how to request a new student organization (spartanexperiences.msu.edu). Once your request has been processed by Student Life, your teams site will be automatically generated and a request will be submitted to create a shared mailbox.

What is Provided

Each new student organization will normally be setup with a Microsoft Teams site and a shared email account. These accounts are established and/or requested by Student Life when they approve the creation of the RSO.

Microsoft Teams Account

Your Microsoft Team's name will start with "RSO" followed by your organization name and will generally be created 1-2 days after the RSO is approved by Student life.

The president of the organization will be setup as the owner of the Teams site. Owners can:

  • add or remove members
    • example: new members joining or other graduating and/or leaving the organization
  • grant or revoke ownerships status to a member
    • example: for a newly elected president

Shared Email Accounts

Shared Email accounts will be labeled RSO.nameoforganization@msu.edu and will generally be created about 3-4 days after the Microsoft Teams site is created. Information on how to use your shared email account is available in KB 868 (link).

Requesting or Modifying Access to an RSO Shared Mailbox

Requests to add or remove access to an existing RSO shared mailbox (email address) should be directed to the Department of Student Life.
