NetID Services for Surviving Spouses

Question

My spouse worked at MSU and is now deceased. What are my options for continuing to use MSU resources that require a NetID to access?

Answer

Spouses are not eligible for NetID services on their own. However, surviving spouses of vested MSU Faculty, Staff, and Retirees are eligible for their own NetID. Contact Human Resources at 517-353-4434, or toll-free at 800-353-4434 to verify your eligibility for spousal benefits, including NetID services.  Once eligibility is verified, contact the ID Office at (517)355-4500.

Additional Info

If instead you need access to the deceased employee's account directly, please contact the IT Service Desk at 517-432-6200 for assistance.

MSU NetIDs are assigned to all current faculty, staff, students and retirees. A NetID is a unique alphanumeric identifier auto-generated from the user's name. Your NetID is your personal identifier at MSU and serves as your login to many university computing and networking services. Your NetID also determines your MSU email address which is netid@msu.edu (e.g. the NetID msuspartan would have the email address msuspartan@msu.edu).
