F5 Campus VPN - Setting up the F5 Campus VPN for Android

Objective

Following these steps will install and configure the software necessary to connect to MSU's virtual private network (VPN) on your Android device.

Environment

Android
BIG-IP Edge VPN Client (F5)

Before You Begin

See KB 36 (link) for the requirements to access MSU's VPN.

Steps

1. Navigate to the Google Play Store and search for F5 Access or F5 Big-Ip Edge Client.

2. Select the F5 Access Application and tap Install. Open the application to begin configuration.
3. Tap Configure Server to begin setup.

4. You will receive a prompt to allow F5 to manage some security settings on the phone. This must be allowed for the application to continue the installation process.

5. Give the connection a name such as Campus VPN and enter vpn.msu.edu in the URL field.
6. Check the Web Logon checkbox to enable it
7. Review the security controls when presented.
   Please note that too many failed unlocks of the phone will remove the VPN connection info.
8. Scroll down to the bottom of the section explaining the F5-managed security controls. Tap Activate this device admin app.

9. Enter your NetID and password and tap Sign In.
10. After logging in, complete two-factor authentication:
11. You will now see a small key in the status bar of your device indicating the F5 Access application is active.
12. You're done! You are now connected to MSU's VPN on your Android device.

From the dropdown on the top of your device, you can get quick statistics on the F5 connection.
