Following these steps will switch your MSU Zoom account to one that is HIPAA-compliant. Direct URL to HIPAA Compliant Sign In: https://msuhipaa.zoom.us/signin

MSU Zoom Web Conferencing

Before You Begin

You only need to convert to a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account if you are tasked with handling data covered by HIPAA, or if you will be scheduling meetings for someone who is. However, standard MSU Zoom accounts are NOT HIPAA-compliant, so this process must be followed if the above applies to you.

Here are the features that will be changed as part of the switch:

  • Require Encryption for 3rd Party Endpoints (H323/SIP) (link) will be enabled for all members of your account
  • Automatic removal of device/user information in logging and reporting
  • Encrypted Chat (link) will be enabled
  • Text messages will be encrypted
  • Offline messages will only be available after all parties initiate a key exchange (link)
  • Screen capture will be disabled
  • Sending images through chat will be disabled

The HIPAA-compliant account will retain the same access and ownership to all your previous data.

  1. Navigate to zoom.us
  2. Under the login button, click the “HIPAA Compliant Login” link. A direct link to "HIPAA Compliant Login" is at https://msuhipaa.zoom.us/signin
  3. Sign in using your MSU NetID and password.
  4. You will be notified that “You are signing into a Zoom account that is different than your current one”. Select the text that reads Switch to the New Account.
  5. You will receive an email in your MSU email inbox asking you to confirm the requested change to your Zoom account.
  6. In the email, select the Switch to the new account
  7. In the web page that appears, select the I Acknowledge and Switch. Despite the warning message about losing privileges or access to features, you account will not lose any privileges or access to features.
