DNS, DHCP & IP Management (DDI)

What Is the Service?

DNS (Domain Name System), DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), and IPAM (Internet Protocol Address Management), collectively referred to as DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), facilitates the management and use of domain names and IP addresses.

Who Is Eligible to Use It?

  • DNS
    • Faculty and staff can request DNS hosting and record changes.
  • DHCP
    • Provided for all student, faculty, and staff wired and wireless MSU network clients after manual DHCP registration.
    • Faculty and staff can request DHCP configuration changes and client fixed IP addresses.
  • IPAM​​​​​​​
    • Faculty and staff can request IP address record changes. 
    • DDI system management access can be granted to delegated subnet owners.

How Do I Use It?

Service Offerings Available by Request:

  • DHCP Registration Service
    The DHCP Registration Service is a web application, plus related utilities, that allows people with MSU network identities to register their DHCP devices to use MSU's network.
  • Hostname Update
    Request to remove/modify existing domains, or add to an existing subdomain DNS hostname (i.e., sysname.unit.msu.edu)
  • New msu.edu Subdomain
    Request third level domain approval (i.e., mysite.msu.edu)
  • Request Assistance with DHCP
  • Request Device Registration on the MSU Network
    Request registration on the MSU Network for a device that cannot use https://dhcp.msu.edu to self-register
  • Network Unblock
    ​​​​​​​Connections are typically blocked if your system is identified to be causing harm to the campus network or is violating the MSU Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). This form should be used by individuals who understand what needs to be done to clean and repair their systems.
