Configuration Management - Aligning the Service Catalog with the Service Portfolio - Internal Only

Overview

  • The TDX Service Catalog is an Educause-aligned, customer-facing categorization of our MSU IT services that includes artifacts from older systems. This tool has over 500 services identified.
  • The MSU IT Service Portfolio is an Educause-aligned, MSU IT created categorization of our services recently created to clarify MSU IT services. This tool has about 150 services identified and endorsed by Executive Leadership.
  • Alignment of these tools allows MSU IT to focus on one categorization of services, reducing confusion and allowing Service Owners to focus on core services.

Current State

  • TDX Service Catalog is not aligned with the MSU IT Service Portfolio.
  • TDX Service Catalog has a considerable amount of excess data that could not be cleaned up during the TDX Implementation.
  • There are a number of cleanup items that Service Owners have requested.

Future State

  • TDX Service Catalog is aligned with the MSU IT Service Portfolio.
  • Excess services in TDX Service Catalog are reviewed and appropriately resolved.
  • Service Owners update service descriptions and requests to meet current business needs.

  • Alignment reduces possibilities of confusion over services and clarifies which services MSU IT provides.
  • Review and update of the TDX Service Catalog and the MSU IT Service Portfolio allows Service Owners to become more familiar with these tools and better describe and clarify services for colleagues.
  • Service Owners can review their services and requests for services to best align with current business needs and support model.
  • Streamlined TDX Service Catalog will be easier to use.
  • Services and service offerings properly aligned with Service Owner and supporting unit with updated and clarified request processes.
  • Handling of services that are redundant, no longer provided, or better suited as service offerings.

How do we get there

  • Service Owners review services in the MSU IT Service Portfolio and TDX Service Catalog and update TDX categorization appropriately.
  • Service Owners update descriptions of services and requests.
  • Service Management team makes changes as required.
  • Service Owners review and validate changes in Dev/QA/Prod

What is expected from Service Owners

  • Service Owners are engaged in the process and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Service Owners conduct reviews of Service Owners review services in the MSU IT Service Portfolio and TDX Service Catalog and update provide templates appropriately.
  • Service Owner review service pages, service offering pages, and request forms to ensure information is accurate.
  • Service Owners complete review and validation of changes as requested.
