Answer

Several things must happen from a knowledge perspective when a Configuration Item is retired (removed from service):

  • Find and Archive all articles as appropriate
    • Be sure to check for any related articles, as links may need to be removed from those as well
    • Check for any existing Shortcuts
    • Check for a Category that may need to be removed
    • Check for all articles attached to the Service or Service Offering
  • Remove the Configuration Item from the Master Support Information Page article
  • Add the Configuration Item and Retired Date to the Master Retired CI article
