Spartan 365 - How to Add a Spartan Mail Account to Windows Outlook

Objective

Following these steps will add a new email account in a local Windows Outlook client that is connected to MSU's Spartan Mail service.

Before You Begin

You will be prompted to verify your identity with your multi-factor authentication (MFA) credential. Have it ready during this process.

Steps

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Select the File menu
  3. If not already on it, select the Info tab from the left
  4. Select Account Settings and then choose Account Settings from the drop-down menu that appears

  5. If not already on it, select the E-mail tab from the top
  6. Select New...
  7. Enter your email address (netid@msu.edu) and select Connect
  8. You will be prompted to authenticate with your MSU NetID password
  9. You will then be prompted to authenticate with your MFA credential. Select the appropriate method and follow the prompts.
  10. Un-check the Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too checkbox, then select Done
  11. You're done! The new account has been added to your Outlook client. You may need to restart Outlook to begin the sync process.
