D2L - How To Have a Quiz Start and Run at a Specified Time

Objective

Following these steps will set a quiz in D2L to start at a specified time and have the timer run for all students whether or not they are in the quiz.

Steps

Using the New Quiz Experience

  1. On the navbar, select Quizzes.
  2. On the Manage Quizzes tab, select New Quiz.
  3. On the Quiz Creation screen, select to expand Timing & Display.
  4. Check Set time limit, then enter a Time Limit in minutes.
  5. Select Edit Timer Settings.
  6. In the Timing dialog, under Quiz Start, select Synchronous: Timer starts on the start date.

  7. Under When The Time Limit Expires, select one of the following:
    • Automatically submit the quiz attempt
    • Flag as "exceeded time limit" and allow the learner to continue working
    • Do nothing: the time limit is not enforced
  8. Select OK.
  9. You're done!

Using the Classic Quiz Experience

  1. On the navbar, select Quizzes.
  2. On the Manage Quizzes tab, select New Quiz.
  3. Select the Restrictions tab.
  4. Check Set time limit, then enter a Time Limit in minutes.
  5. Under Quiz Start, select Synchronous.

  6. Under When The Time Limit Expires, select one of the following:
    • Automatically submit the quiz attempt
    • Flag as "exceeded time limit" and allow the learner to continue working
    • Do nothing: the time limit is not enforced
  7. Select Ok.
  8. You're done!

Additional Info

For a learner taking a synchronous quiz, the Start Quiz button is disabled until the start date and time arrives. A countdown timer appears on the Quiz Start page to indicate the time remaining before the quiz becomes available.
